Aston Villa cruise to season-high Premier league win over Bournemouth
Aston Villa secured their most commanding Premier League victory of the season with a 4-0 demolition of Bournemouth at Villa Park, Sport360NG reports.
Emiliano Buendia opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark with a brilliant free-kick from outside the box, curling the ball over the wall and past the Bournemouth goalkeeper.
Villa doubled their advantage shortly after when Morgan Rogers nutmegged Alex Jimenez and slid the ball to Amadou Onana, who expertly fired a low strike into the corner.
Bournemouth improved after the break, with Alex Scott forcing Emiliano Martinez into a sharp save from a deflected effort. The Cherries were then awarded a penalty after Rogers blocked Evanilson’s header with his arm. But Martinez guessed correctly, diving to his right to deny Antoine Semenyo and preserve Villa’s two-goal lead, much to the delight of the Holte End.
What could have been a tense final phase turned into a straightforward victory for the hosts. Ross Barkley added a third with a glancing header from a Lucas Digne corner, and substitute Donyell Malen completed the scoring by deflecting Youri Tielemans’ low drive past Djordje Petrovic.
The win lifts Villa to seventh in the table with 18 points, level with Bournemouth but ahead on goal difference, also above Manchester United.
Villa Analysis: Buendia Shines, Watkins Frustrates
Villa’s attacking struggles earlier in the season – notably a four-game goal drought, now feel like a distant memory. Their fourth consecutive home victory signals a return to the formidable Villa Park form seen under Unai Emery last season.
Buendia was central to the display, continuing his revival at the club. After spending the latter part of last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, the 28-year-old Argentine has re-established himself, and his opener against Bournemouth was a contender for Premier League Goal of the Month. With three goals so far, Buendia is now Villa’s top scorer.
Meanwhile, Ollie Watkins remains a source of concern, having found the net just once in 16 appearances across all competitions. Finding consistency from the striker will be a priority for Emery.
Bournemouth Analysis: Lack of Cutting Edge Away from Home
Andoni Iraola’s side have impressed in the early part of the season, but their struggles on the road continue. Bournemouth have won only once in their last six Premier League away fixtures.
Against Villa, they created opportunities but failed to convert key moments. Evanilson had a chance blocked by the post and mishandled a clear opportunity when through on goal. A tactical gamble by Iraola, making three substitutions just after the hour, disrupted Bournemouth’s momentum and allowed Villa to seal a comfortable victory.
