Katsina United refutes online claims of violence, player death in NPFL match
Katsina United Football Club has strongly rejected reports circulating online that claimed violence and the death of a player occurred during their recent NPFL encounter with Barau FC at Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Sport360NG reports.
In a statement released on Sunday, the club’s Media Director, Nasir Gide, described the allegations as “completely unfounded” and a “deliberate attempt to tarnish the club’s reputation.”
Gide acknowledged that the match was tense due to some controversial refereeing decisions but emphasized that security personnel maintained full control throughout the game. “At no point did any supporter enter the main pitch,” he stressed.
The club criticised the media outlet responsible for publishing the claims, warning that spreading unverified information could negatively impact both Katsina United and football development in the state and across Nigeria.
Katsina United also accused Barau FC of contributing to the spread of the false reports, adding that the League Management Company (LMC) would be allowed to carry out a full investigation.
The club has reportedly requested a public retraction and apology and cautioned that legal action may follow if the outlet fails to comply. Gide concluded by reaffirming Katsina United’s commitment to professionalism, discipline, and fair play both on and off the field.
