England to host world champions Spain at wembley in key 2027 world cup qualifier
Euro 2025 champions England will welcome reigning world title-holders Spain to Wembley in April as part of their qualifying campaign for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, Sport360NG reports.
Spain defeated the Lionesses in the 2023 World Cup final, but England struck back by edging them on penalties in July’s Euro 2025 final to defend their continental crown. The heavyweight rivals will meet again on Tuesday, 14 April, in a Group A3 clash, with the exact kick-off time still to be confirmed.
“Spain are one of the top teams globally, so facing them at Wembley once more is something to look forward to,” said England head coach Sarina Wiegman. “We saw in the Euro final how difficult they are to play against, and there’s a strong level of respect between both sides.”
England’s group also includes Iceland and Ukraine.
Qualifying for the upcoming World Cup in Brazil mirrors the Nations League structure, with nations competing across three leagues. Only the winners of the four League A groups will secure automatic berths, while all other sides must navigate the play-offs for the remaining eight qualification spots.
“It’s a tough group, but our priority is to reach the World Cup,” Wiegman added. “That’s our focus from this point on, and we hope our supporters can help push us closer to Brazil when we play at Wembley in April.”
Details regarding venues and ticketing for England’s remaining home fixtures will be released at a later date.
