Mbappe fires Real Madrid to thrilling win over Olympiacos with four-goal masterclass
Kylian Mbappe delivered a stunning individual performance as Real Madrid secured a 4-2 victory over Olympiacos in a pulsating Champions League encounter in Athens, Sport360NG reports.
The hosts shocked the visitors early, with Francisco Chiquinho curling a 20-yard strike past the goalkeeper to give Olympiacos the lead. But Mbappe quickly turned the game on its head, scoring three goals in just seven minutes, the second-fastest hat-trick in Champions League history.
Mbappe opened the scoring by calmly finishing Vinicius Jr’s perfectly timed pass behind the defence. He then nodded in a cross from Arda Guler before racing past the offside trap to convert Eduardo Camavinga’s pass, completing his rapid-fire hat-trick.
Real Madrid continued to press, with Aurelien Tchouameni hitting the bar, despite missing five defenders and their first-choice goalkeeper due to injury and illness. Olympiacos briefly clawed back into the game through a powerful header from substitute Mehdi Taremi.
Mbappe completed his four-goal haul with a close-range finish from Vinicius’ assist, though Ayoub el Kaabi’s late header gave the Greek side hope. The victory ended Real’s three-game winless run and marked their first competitive triumph in Athens in ten visits. Real now sit fifth in Group A, three points behind leaders Arsenal, while Olympiacos remain bottom with just two points.
Mbappe’s Scoring Blitz Continues
Mbappe’s performance underlined his extraordinary form this season. He is the Champions League’s top scorer with nine goals in five games, and has netted 22 goals in 18 matches across all competitions for Madrid.
“I feel good, I’m very happy,” Mbappe said. “Scoring goals is always a pleasure for me. My team-mates give me lots of great passes.”
The 26-year-old’s pace and clinical finishing were on full display in Athens, with two of his goals coming from perfectly timed runs behind the defence. His four-goal tally came from just six shots, highlighting his efficiency in front of goal.
Mbappe’s feat also brought several milestones: it was his fourth career match with four or more goals, he became only the third player to score a hat-trick within 29 minutes in a Champions League match, and the second to record a seven-minute hat-trick. Additionally, he now holds the record for the most away hat-tricks in European Cup or Champions League history and became the first Real Madrid player to score four goals in a European away match.
