Mbappe double keeps Real Madrid perfect with win at Levante

Kylian Mbappe struck twice in quick succession as Real Madrid extended their flawless start to the La Liga season with a commanding victory over Levante, Sport360NG reports.

Madrid had been 2-1 ahead when the Frenchman settled the contest with two goals inside two minutes midway through the second half, securing a sixth win from as many matches and stretching the gap at the top to five points over Barcelona.

Mbappe’s first came from the penalty spot, where he calmly chipped in a Panenka past Mathew Ryan in the 64th minute. Moments later, he latched onto an Arda Guler pass and finished neatly to take his league tally to seven.

Vinicius Jr had opened the scoring with a moment of brilliance, curling a shot with the outside of his boot into the far corner. He then turned creator, delivering a crossfield ball that teenager Franco Mastantuono hammered into the top corner for his first goal since joining Madrid in the summer. At 18, the Argentine became the club’s fourth-youngest scorer in La Liga, edging Vinicius down that list.

Levante briefly threatened a response when Etta Eyong nodded in Ivan Romero’s deflected cross at the far post. But Mbappe’s double ensured there was no way back.

For head coach Xabi Alonso, it was a record-equalling night as he became only the second Madrid boss to begin his league tenure with six straight wins. He can match Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s mark of seven, set in 2005, when Los Blancos face city rivals Atletico this weekend.

Barcelona, meanwhile, have the chance to trim the deficit when they travel to Oviedo on Thursday.
