France Beat Ukraine as Mbappé Equals Henry’s Scoring Record
Kylian Mbappé has matched Thierry Henry’s tally to become France’s joint second-highest goalscorer after netting in a 2-0 win over Ukraine in Friday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier, Sport360NG reports.
The French captain struck in the 82nd minute to bring his international total to 51 goals, drawing level with the Arsenal great. Only Olivier Giroud sits ahead of him in the scoring charts, with 57 goals to his name.
Michael Olise had earlier given Les Bleus a dream start, opening the scoring in the 10th minute as Didier Deschamps’ side tightened their lead at the top of Group C. Ukraine, meanwhile, offered little threat in the final third.
Since making his senior debut in 2017, Mbappé has established himself as the face of French football. He burst onto the scene at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, netting four times, including in the final against Croatia, to help secure France’s second world crown. At Qatar 2022, he further underlined his superstar status by finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with eight goals, capped by a stunning hat-trick in the final defeat to Argentina.
Mbappé now has the chance to overtake Henry outright when France continue their qualifying campaign against Georgia on Tuesday.
