UCL: Kane inspires Bayern to first-leg advantage over Real Madrid at Bernabeu

Harry Kane made a decisive return from injury with a clinical performance as Bayern Munich secured a narrow but valuable victory over Real Madrid in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final at the Santiago Bernabeu, Sport360NG reports.

The England captain, recently sidelined by a minor injury, was restored to the starting line-up under the watchful eye of national team manager Thomas Tuchel. Although relatively quiet in the opening exchanges, Kane played a key role in Bayern’s breakthrough, contributing to the move that saw Luis Diaz finish calmly to give the visitors the lead just before the interval.

Kane stepped up moments after the restart to underline his importance, firing a precise right-footed effort into the bottom corner beyond goalkeeper Andriy Lunin to double Bayern’s advantage.

Despite Bayern’s dominance, Real Madrid remained a threat. Veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer delivered a commanding display, denying Kylian Mbappe on multiple occasions to preserve the visitors’ lead.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side responded by introducing Jude Bellingham shortly after the hour mark, and the midfielder injected urgency into their play. Real found a route back into the contest in the 74th minute when Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a low cross that Mbappe converted at the far post.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Bayern held firm to take a slender advantage into the return leg in Munich.

England Stars Under the Spotlight

Tuchel’s presence at the Bernabeu added further intrigue, with several England internationals involved. Alexander-Arnold’s performance highlighted both his attacking quality and defensive vulnerabilities. While he struggled defensively in the first half, he redeemed himself with a well-weighted assist for Mbappe after the break.

Bellingham, returning from injury, made a strong impact off the bench, offering dynamism in midfield, though he was unable to inspire a full comeback.

Kane Delivers When It Matters

Kane’s fitness had been a major talking point ahead of the encounter, and the striker ultimately justified his inclusion with a decisive contribution. After a subdued first half, his composed finish early in the second period proved to be the difference in a high-tempo contest.

Bayern created additional opportunities to extend their lead but were unable to capitalise, leaving the tie finely poised ahead of the second leg at the Allianz Arena.

While Real Madrid’s pedigree in the competition ensures the contest remains open, Bayern’s performance in Madrid will give them confidence of progressing to the semi-finals.
