UCL: Mbappe ready for big stage as Real Madrid prepare for Bayern clash – Arbeloa

Real Madrid head coach Alvaro Arbeloa has backed Kylian Mbappe to rise to the occasion ahead of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg against Bayern Munich, stating the forward was signed for decisive nights such as this, Sport360NG reports.

Mbappe, who leads Madrid’s scoring charts this season, is expected to return to the starting line-up after recovering from a knee injury that limited his involvement in the previous round against Manchester City. Despite his absence from the starting XI in both legs, Madrid advanced convincingly, underlining the depth within Arbeloa’s squad.

With the Frenchman now fit, the Madrid boss hinted at a formidable attacking partnership alongside Vinicius Junior for the encounter at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Arbeloa expressed confidence in his squad depth, acknowledging the challenge of balancing several elite talents but describing it as a privilege rather than a problem.

“I’m pleased to have players of this quality available, especially someone like Mbappe, who came here for matches of this magnitude,” he said. “I believe we will see him at his very best, leading the team, and I trust every player in the squad.”

Midfielder Jude Bellingham is also nearing full fitness after injury, further strengthening Madrid’s options. However, emerging talents such as Thiago Pitarch and Brahim Diaz, who impressed against City, may see reduced roles with the return of key players.

Arbeloa highlighted Mbappe’s unique qualities compared to other attacking options, noting that tactical adjustments would be required to maximise his impact.

“Having a player like Mbappe is a huge advantage. Any coach in the world would want him,” he added. “Opponents must deal with players like Mbappe, Vinicius, Federico Valverde and Bellingham, some of the finest talents in the game.”

Meanwhile, Vinicius dismissed concerns over his on-field compatibility with Mbappe, insisting their understanding continues to grow.

“There’s a lot of talk, but he’s here to help us. He gives us confidence and scores important goals,” the Brazilian said. “We have a strong connection, both on and off the pitch.”

Madrid head into the clash looking to respond after a 2-1 La Liga defeat to Mallorca left them trailing leaders Barcelona by seven points.

Vinicius admitted the team fell below their usual standards in that match but stressed the importance of delivering a top-level performance against Bayern.

“We weren’t fully connected against Mallorca, but this is a different challenge,” he said. “If we are not at our maximum level, we won’t win. We must be ready.”

The winger also addressed ongoing concerns around discrimination in football, supporting recent calls for greater awareness and unity in tackling racism across the sport.

Madrid will now turn their full focus to the European showdown, with Mbappe expected to play a central role as they pursue another deep run in the competition.
