Chiamaka Nnadozie tops WSL goal prevention charts after Brighton shutout
Chiamaka Nnadozie has risen to the top of the Women’s Super League (WSL) goal prevention rankings following another commanding performance in Brighton’s 1–0 win over London City Lionesses, The Nigeria international made five crucial saves and kept her third clean sheet of the season, Sport360NG reports.
Nnadozie now boasts the second-highest number of clean sheets in the league this campaign and has made 42 saves across ten matches. Advanced performance metrics indicate she has prevented more goals than any other goalkeeper in the WSL, highlighting her growing influence in England.
The “goal prevention” statistic compares the expected goals on target from shots faced with the actual goals conceded, providing an insight into the number of goals a keeper stops beyond what would normally be expected. Nnadozie leads with a goal prevention value of 2.9, ahead of Hannah Hampton (1.9) and Ayaka Yamashita (1.1). Sabrina D’Angelo, Daphne van Domselaar, and Lize Kop complete the top six.
Her latest standout performance came in a hard-fought away victory on Sunday. Brighton struck early through Kiko Seike in the sixth minute and were awarded a penalty 13 minutes later after a foul on Madison Haley, but Elene Lete’s save kept the Lionesses in the game.
Despite increasing possession, London City Lionesses were thwarted by Nnadozie’s four first-half saves. In the second half, she was called into action only once, comfortably dealing with the sole shot on target.
The win lifts Brighton to seventh in the WSL table with 14 points, narrowing the gap to sixth-placed London City Lionesses to a single point. Brighton will host reigning champions Chelsea next Sunday, while the Lionesses travel to Leicester looking to bounce back.
