Welbeck reaches double figures as Brighton sink Forest to secure consecutive wins
Danny Welbeck struck his 10th Premier League goal of the campaign as Brighton & Hove Albion claimed successive top-flight victories for the first time since November with an entertaining win over Nottingham Forest at the Amex Stadium, Sport360NG reports.
The contest burst into life from the opening whistle, producing three goals inside a breathless 15-minute spell. Brighton took the lead through Diego Gomez, who drilled an angled effort beyond the goalkeeper to reward the hosts’ bright start.
Forest responded swiftly, with Morgan Gibbs-White rifling home a powerful strike from the edge of the area to level matters.
Parity lasted barely two minutes. Welbeck restored Brighton’s advantage just 105 seconds later, rolling his marker with a sharp turn before finishing clinically. The goal saw the former England forward match last season’s tally, underlining his importance to the Seagulls’ attacking output.
From that point, Brighton controlled proceedings, dictating the tempo and carving out further openings they were unable to convert. Forest, meanwhile, struggled to impose themselves in forward areas and rarely threatened with sustained pressure.
The visitors’ best opportunity to rescue a point arrived late on, but substitute Taiwo Awoniyi sent a firm header wide of the target.
Back-to-back wins, following last week’s triumph at Brentford, lift Brighton to 11th in the table, three points shy of eighth-placed Everton, and ease mounting scrutiny on head coach Fabian Hurzeler.
For Forest boss Vitor Pereira, the wait for a first Premier League victory continues. His side remain only two points clear of West Ham and the relegation zone as the pressure intensifies in the battle for survival.
