UCL: Tottenham Hotspur bounce back with convincing champions league win over Slavia Prague

Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways in the Champions League, securing a 3-0 victory against Slavia Prague at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The result follows a 5-3 defeat to holders Paris Saint-Germain and builds on Spurs’ morale-boosting Premier League win over Brentford, Sport360NG reports.

The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Slavia defender David Zima inadvertently headed Cristian Romero’s flick from Pedro Porro’s corner into his own net, giving Spurs an early advantage.

Slavia threatened on several occasions, with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario making a crucial save from Youssoupha Sanyang. However, Spurs doubled their lead five minutes into the second half after Sanyang fouled Porro in the penalty area, allowing Mohammed Kudus to convert from the spot, marking his first Champions League goal for the club.

The win was sealed in the 79th minute when Xavi Simons calmly slotted home a second penalty after being brought down by Igoh Ogbu, putting the game beyond Slavia’s reach.

The match also featured an emotional moment as former Spurs star Son Heung-min returned to the stadium following his move to Los Angeles FC. Son, who scored 173 goals in 454 appearances and captained Spurs in his farewell Europa League game against Manchester United, was warmly received by fans before kick-off.

Richarlison came close to scoring early on but was denied by Slavia keeper Jindrich Stanek, who also made a remarkable double save later in the match to keep the scoreline respectable. Despite the own goal, Spurs dominated and controlled much of the game, showcasing the positive momentum Thomas Frank’s side have built this season.

The only setback for Tottenham came with a yellow card for key defender Micky van de Ven, ruling him out of their next Champions League fixture against Borussia Dortmund. Currently sitting ninth in the group, Spurs will aim to secure a top-eight finish and progress to the last 16 without facing the play-off round.

For Slavia, the defeat leaves them with just three points from four games, meaning victories in their remaining matches, starting with Barcelona, are essential if they hope to advance from the group stage.
