Nigeria loses promising young talent as Ejiasan chooses France
Jared Ejiasan has decided to change his international allegiance from Nigeria to France, bringing an end to hopes that the emerging track prospect would compete for the West African nation, Sport360NG reports.
The Nigerian-born teenager, who relocated to France at the age of one, is currently working toward securing French citizenship as part of the process required to formalise the switch.
Widely considered one of the promising young athletes within his age group, Ejiasan has openly declared his ambitions on the international stage. “My goal is the French national team,” he stated, underlining his commitment to representing the European country.
His decision represents a setback for Nigerian athletics, which continues to grapple with the challenge of retaining homegrown talents with dual nationality. France now appears set to benefit from the development of an athlete long tipped for a bright future.
Ejiasan’s move also reflects a growing pattern in global sports, where dual-heritage athletes increasingly choose to compete for the nation where they were raised and trained, rather than their country of birth.
