Anderson strike earns Nottingham Forest crucial draw as Manchester City lose ground in title race

Title-chasing Manchester City dropped valuable points in the Premier League title race after being held to a dramatic draw by struggling Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, Sport360NG reports.

The result leaves City seven points behind league leaders Arsenal, who secured a narrow victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at the same time.

Despite dominating possession for long periods, Pep Guardiola’s side were unable to secure maximum points as Elliot Anderson’s late equaliser rescued a crucial draw for the visitors.

Forest initially adopted a cautious approach, sitting deep and allowing City to control the ball without creating clear openings in the early exchanges. However, the visitors offered the first real threat when Antoine Semenyo fired a powerful effort into the side netting.

City eventually made their dominance count after the half-hour mark. Rayan Cherki delivered a delicate cross into the penalty area which Semenyo met with a composed volley, marking his seventh goal since arriving in January.

Forest continued to threaten on the counter-attack. Morgan Gibbs-White forced Gianluigi Donnarumma into a low save, while the Italian goalkeeper also parried a swerving strike from Igor Jesus.

The visitors drew level in spectacular fashion on 56 minutes. After Igor Jesus flicked the ball into his path, Forest captain Gibbs-White produced a clever backheel finish that slipped past Donnarumma to make it 1–1.

City quickly responded. Erling Haaland saw a deflected effort loop onto the roof of the net before Rodri restored the hosts’ lead by heading home from the resulting corner.

However, Forest refused to fold. With 13 minutes remaining, Anderson curled a superb strike from 25 yards beyond Donnarumma to secure a valuable point for the visitors.

The draw keeps Forest narrowly outside the relegation zone on goal difference as they continue their fight for survival under manager Vitor Pereira.

City lose momentum in title pursuit

For Guardiola’s men, the result represents a significant setback in the title race.

Although City extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 10 matches, failing to protect two separate leads could prove costly in the battle to catch Arsenal. The Gunners’ victory on the south coast means Mikel Arteta’s side now hold a healthy advantage at the summit, even with City still having a game in hand.

Haaland returned to the starting lineup and came close to scoring in the first half after rounding Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels, but could only find the side netting.

The Norwegian forward also appealed for a penalty after appearing to be caught by Sels in the second half, though referee Darren England waved play on and VAR official Tony Harrington declined to intervene.

England international Phil Foden, making his return to the starting XI in place of injured Nico O’Reilly, endured another frustrating outing and has now gone 17 matches without finding the net.

City pushed for a winner late on. Bernardo Silva forced a superb save from Sels, Semenyo narrowly missed with a free-kick in stoppage time, and Savinho saw a last-gasp effort cleared off the line by Murillo.

Forest earn lifeline in survival battle

Forest celebrated a hard-earned point that could prove vital in their fight against relegation.

Anderson’s equaliser ensured the visitors remained outside the drop zone, particularly after West Ham United defeated Fulham earlier in the evening.

The visitors even had a chance to snatch victory in added time when Anderson’s corner found substitute Ryan Yates, whose header drifted narrowly wide of the post.

Despite the encouraging result, Forest are still searching for their first league win in six matches, while Pereira is yet to record a victory in 13 top-flight games this season.

Nevertheless, the late equaliser could prove pivotal as the club battles to maintain its Premier League status.
