UCL: PSG crush Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge to reach Champions League quarter-finals
Paris Saint-Germain ended Chelsea’s hopes of a Champions League comeback with a dominant 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, sealing an 8-2 aggregate victory in the last-16 tie, Sport360NG reports.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring early, outmuscling Chelsea debutant Mamadou Sarr to put the visitors ahead. Bradley Barcola doubled the lead in the 14th minute after a precise delivery from Achraf Hakimi, effectively ending Chelsea’s hopes of overturning the 5-2 deficit from the first leg.
In the second half, substitute Senny Mayulu completed PSG’s clinical performance, finishing a Kvaratskhelia assist to make it 3-0. Trevoh Chalobah was later stretchered off, leaving Chelsea to finish with 10 men.
The victory sets PSG up for a quarter-final clash against either Liverpool or Galatasaray, with the Turkish side holding a 1-0 advantage from the first leg. For PSG, this comprehensive win provides revenge for last July’s Club World Cup final loss to Chelsea and signals that the team may be hitting peak form at the perfect moment in their bid to retain the Champions League trophy.
Chelsea now face the challenge of regrouping as they aim to secure Champions League qualification for next season, having suffered two defeats to PSG and a recent Premier League loss to Newcastle United.
