Nike unveils new Super Eagles kits despite Nigeria’s World Cup absence

Global sportswear brand Nike has launched new home and away kits for Nigeria’s national football teams, but the release has drawn mixed reactions following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Sport360NG reports.

The newly unveiled home jersey features a bright light green base complemented by darker green panels and a subtle dotted gradient design. It is finished with the Nigeria Football Federation crest and Nike’s iconic swoosh. The away kit, meanwhile, comes in white with understated green detailing, including patterned accents along the sleeves and sides.

This marks the third kit release for Nigeria within a two-year period, with the current partnership between Nike and the Nigeria Football Federation due to expire later this year. The collaboration, which began in 2015, was extended in 2018 after the global success of Nigeria’s Russia 2018 World Cup kit.

However, the unveiling has been met with scepticism among fans, many of whom are still frustrated by Nigeria’s absence from a second consecutive World Cup tournament.

Some supporters questioned the timing of the release, arguing that new kits hold less significance without participation in major competitions. Others took to social media to express disappointment, suggesting the jerseys would have limited use beyond friendly matches.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Iran and Jordan in international friendlies in Turkey later this week and next, though it is yet to be confirmed whether the new kits will make their on-field debut during those fixtures.
