Portable, Carter Efe set for Ikeja face-off ahead of celebrity boxing showdown
The growing rivalry between Habeeb ‘Portable’ Badmus and Carter Efe is expected to intensify on Tuesday as both entertainers meet in Ikeja, Lagos, in the lead-up to their much-anticipated celebrity boxing bout scheduled for May 1, Sport360NG reports.
The face-off comes amid escalating tension between the pair, with Portable repeatedly targeting his opponent in recent weeks. The controversial singer has alleged that Carter Efe is attempting to withdraw from the fight, while confidently predicting a swift victory inside the opening round.
Speaking to our sport journalist, Portable maintained a defiant stance, insisting the bout would go ahead as planned and warning that his opponent would not escape the encounter.
Portable also questioned Carter Efe’s preparation for the contest, taking aim at his choice of sparring partner, Small Doctor. He further claimed to have already overpowered Carter Efe during a prior confrontation at the residence of businessman Abu Abel.
The Zazu crooner enters the bout with prior experience in celebrity boxing, having recorded victories over Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington in previous exhibition fights, bolstering his credentials in the growing entertainment-boxing scene.
The May 1 event, billed as Chaos in the Ring 4, will take place at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos. The contest is sanctioned by the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control and promoted by Balmoral Group Promotions in collaboration with former world heavyweight champion Amir Khan’s AK Promotions. The event is also set to be broadcast globally on DAZN.
In addition to the headline celebrity clash, the fight card will feature a strong professional undercard. The highlight is the WBO cruiserweight “Peace Fight” between Ezra Arenyeka (15-2, 12 KOs) and Godday Appah (14-2, 13 KOs), a bout symbolically representing the Itsekiri and Ijaw communities of the Niger Delta. Several other professional contests are also scheduled, making the event one of the most notable boxing nights in Nigeria this year.
