Tinubu to open big sports dialogue 1.0 as stakeholders rally for reform in Nigerian Sports
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to formally open the Big Sports Dialogue 1.0 today in Lagos, according to the organisers, Sport360NG reports.
The inaugural forum is positioned as a platform to confront the major challenges facing Nigerian sports and to chart a new course for rebuilding the nation’s sports ecosystem. The dialogue aims to unite key stakeholders and policymakers to outline strategies for a more vibrant, accountable and sustainable sector.
Among the prominent speakers scheduled to lead conversations are Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC); the NSC Director-General, Bukola Olopade; Director-General of the National Institute of Sports, Philip Shaibu; and respected sports marketing expert Mike Itemuagbor.
Other contributors include basketball promoter Igoche Mark; veteran journalist Aderonke Ararobin; Arise TV host Rufai Oseni; and former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick. Additional speakers listed are Rivers State Sports Commissioner Chris Green, NFF board member and sportscaster Aisha Falode, Steve Oshio, Abubakar Lawal, Bashire Are and renowned journalist Reuben Abati.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Osaze Ebueku, described the dialogue as “a call to action for all Nigerians to unite and chart the future of sports in the country.”
Organisers say the event will feature high-level deliberations, policy proposals and strategic partnerships aimed at revitalising sports infrastructure, improving governance and funding models, strengthening talent development pathways and boosting Nigeria’s international competitiveness in sports.
