Bruno Fernandes was the standout performer on Sunday as Manchester United wrapped up the Premier League Summer Series title with a 2-2 draw against Everton in Atlanta, Sport360NG reports.

The Portuguese midfielder converted a penalty and provided an assist, helping United top the round-robin tournament with seven points, following earlier victories over West Ham (2-1) and Bournemouth (4-1).

Speaking after the match, Fernandes emphasised the club’s ongoing rebuilding efforts.

“We’re making progress,” he told Sky Sports. “The club is doing everything it can. We needed more depth and quality in the squad to push everyone harder for places in the starting XI. The manager is working on that, and hopefully we can add a few more players to help.”

Last season was one to forget for United, who finished a disappointing 15th in the Premier League, their worst league performance since the 1973-74 relegation campaign. With just 11 wins in 38 matches, Fernandes acknowledged the fans’ frustration.

“Many people have suffered,” he said. “The fans are paying more than ever for tickets, and we really value their support. It’s now on us, the players, to give them something back on the pitch.”

Fernandes stressed the importance of attention to detail in the club’s pursuit of improvement, both on and off the field.

“At Manchester United, nothing can be taken lightly,” he said. “This club has a history built on winning. That culture needs to return.”

Fernandes gave United the lead in the 19th minute after Everton’s James Tarkowski brought down Amad Diallo in the area. The Toffees responded in the 40th minute, with Iliman Ndiaye finishing off a move involving Idrissa Gana Gueye to make it 1-1.

Substitute Mason Mount restored United’s lead in the 69th minute, curling in a fine effort from a Fernandes pass. But Everton drew level again six minutes later when Diallo’s back pass deflected off Ayden Heaven for an own goal.

New United manager Ruben Amorim handed Bryan Mbeumo his debut start, with the Brentford signing finally joining up with the squad after completing his pre-season training.

Diouf Inspires West Ham to Victory Over Bournemouth

Earlier in the day, West Ham United secured a 2-0 win over Bournemouth, with Senegalese left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf playing a starring role in both goals.

The 20-year-old, who only joined the Hammers on July 15, delivered pinpoint assists for Niclas Füllkrug and Jarrod Bowen, showcasing his creativity and composure in just his second appearance.

“Both goals came from his quality,” said Bowen. “He’s only been here a few weeks, but he’s slotted in like he’s been around for years. He’s humble and a top guy in the dressing room, and clearly a top footballer too.”

Diouf’s low cross in the 24th minute set up a chance for Bowen, who smartly shifted the ball to Füllkrug to slot home from close range. In the 67th minute, Bowen got his goal, finishing off another Diouf delivery to seal the win.

Despite dominating the early stages, Bournemouth were wasteful, hitting the woodwork twice in the first 15 minutes.

“We didn’t start the way we wanted,” Bowen admitted. “But the team showed real character and dug deep.”

West Ham’s victory secured their second win of the Summer Series, wrapping up a positive pre-season campaign.
