BREAKING: Iraola to leave Bournemouth at season’s end amid growing transfer interest
Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola will step down at the end of the season after rejecting several offers to extend his contract, which expires in three months, Sport360NG reports.
The Spaniard informed his players of the decision on Tuesday, bringing an end to speculation over his future. He will remain in charge for the club’s final six Premier League matches, with Bournemouth still in contention for a potential European place.
In a statement released by the club, Iraola said the timing was right to move on, concluding a productive three-year spell on the south coast.
Club Efforts and Mutual Respect
Bournemouth made extensive attempts to retain the 43-year-old, opening talks over a new deal more than 15 months ago. However, Iraola chose to delay negotiations until later in the season before ultimately deciding against renewing.
While the club are disappointed by his departure, there remains strong mutual respect between both parties.
His final home game will be against Manchester City on May 18, before he takes charge for the last time away to Nottingham Forest on the final day of the campaign.
European Dream Still Alive
Bournemouth currently sit 11th in the Premier League, just two points behind seventh place, a position that could secure qualification for the UEFA Conference League.
A top-seven finish would represent a historic achievement for the club, offering Iraola the chance to leave on a high note.
Impact and Achievements at Bournemouth
Since replacing Gary O’Neil in June 2023, Iraola has transformed Bournemouth’s playing style, introducing an attacking and high-intensity approach.
The Cherries finished ninth last season with a club-record 56 points, underlining the progress made under his leadership.
This season, he has had to navigate significant squad changes, with key players departing in deals worth a combined £253m. Despite this, Bournemouth have remained competitive in the top half of the table.
