Nasarawa United strengthen NPFL lead with emphatic win over El-Kanemi warriors
Nasarawa United extended their advantage at the top of the 2025 Nigeria Premier Football League table to 27 points on Sunday with a convincing 3–0 victory over El-Kanemi Warriors at the Lafia City Stadium, Sport360NG reports.
In-form striker Anas Yusuf delivered a standout performance, scoring twice in the 38th and 46th minutes, the first from the penalty spot, to put the Solid Miners firmly ahead. Garba Mohammed struck just two minutes later to round off a dominant display by the league leaders.
Head coach Mangut Mbwas Ayuba hailed his team’s consistency and discipline, describing the win as a testament to their determination to remain at the summit of the table.
El-Kanemi head coach Kabir Dogo, who previously managed Nasarawa United, praised his former club despite the defeat, attributing the goals conceded to avoidable defensive lapses. “The goals came from defensive errors by one of our best players, but that is football,” he said.
Dogo also expressed pride in the progress of players he once nurtured. “Some of the boys I gave their NPFL debut are still here, and I’m happy to see how far they’ve grown,” he noted. He added that logistical challenges, particularly travel, have been the biggest obstacle for his side this season.
Man of the Match Anas Yusuf said he was delighted with his brace and grateful for the club’s supporters. “The fans made me feel on top of the world. I want them to keep supporting us,” he said.
Addressing his missed move abroad after finishing among last season’s top scorers, Anas insisted he remains fully focused on Nasarawa United. “I was not discouraged. I’m happy here, and my goal is to keep helping the team win,” he added.
The victory further cements Nasarawa United’s position at the top of the NPFL standings as they push toward a strong finish to their campaign.
