Deji Ayeni set to become Enyimba’s new technical adviser amid coaching shake-up
Former Akwa United coach Deji Ayeni has emerged as the frontrunner to take over as Enyimba’s technical adviser following the suspension of Stanley Eguma, Sport360NG has learnt.
The nine-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions are currently being handled on an interim basis by Lawrence Ukaegbu but are pushing for a quick appointment to steady their faltering season.
Ayeni, who previously managed Crown FC, Sunshine Stars, Cynosure FC and led Ekiti United to the Super 8, is reportedly in advanced talks with the club. Speculation gained momentum after NPFL insider Azeez Olaiya hinted that negotiations were virtually complete.
“Deji Ayeni is poised to take over as Technical Adviser, potentially replacing Stanley Eguma. My source indicates Ayeni has not been sighted in Ogbomosho with Crown FC and is already in Aba, with arrangements finalised with Enyimba’s management,” Olaiya wrote.
He added that the former Akwa United boss is expected to sign a one-year deal with an option to extend.
Olaiya’s comments suggest Ayeni has already arrived in Aba and is preparing to assume the role, with the club likely to confirm his appointment once internal procedures are concluded.
Enyimba’s 3–2 defeat to Katsina United in their last NPFL fixture has intensified the urgency to resolve their coaching situation. The People’s Elephant face Rangers on Sunday in a crucial matchday 15 encounter as they attempt to regain momentum.
The club believes Ayeni’s extensive experience within the domestic league could help restore stability and revive their campaign.
