BREAKING: Jamie Murray retires from Tennis at 40
Former world number one doubles player Jamie Murray has officially announced his retirement from professional tennis, bringing an end to a distinguished career that spanned more than three decades, Sport360NG reports.
The 40-year-old, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, has not competed since last August’s US Open. Confirming his decision via social media, Murray expressed gratitude for his journey in the sport while looking ahead to life beyond the court.
“My tennis journey comes to an end after 36 years,” he wrote. “I feel very fortunate and privileged for all the amazing experiences this great sport has given me.”
Murray made history as the first British doubles player to reach the top of the world rankings, establishing himself as one of the most successful doubles specialists of his generation.
He also paid tribute to his family and support system, acknowledging their role in his achievements. “Thanks to my family for their incredible support, efforts and sacrifices throughout my career that allowed me to achieve everything I could in the game,” he added.
Murray now steps away from the sport, stating he is “excited to enter the real world” after an accomplished career at the highest level.
