Farioli Targets Title Revival at FC Porto
New FC Porto manager Francesco Farioli has set his sights on returning the club to the summit of Portuguese football, vowing to lead the 30-time champions back to title-winning form.
Speaking on Monday following his appointment, the 36-year-old Italian expressed a strong desire to restore Porto’s competitive edge after a difficult campaign that saw them finish third in the Primeira Liga—11 points adrift of champions Sporting Lisbon.
Farioli takes over from Martín Anselmi, who oversaw a turbulent spell in charge, with the team managing only 10 wins in 21 league games under his leadership.
The former Ajax boss joins the Portuguese giants just months after stepping down from his role in the Netherlands, where his side missed out on the Eredivisie title despite holding a nine-point advantage with five matches to go.
