Modric Set to Join AC Milan After Club World Cup, Says Allegri
AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed that Croatian midfielder Luka Modric will join the Rossoneri following the conclusion of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Speaking at his first press conference since returning to the Milan dugout, Allegri revealed that the Real Madrid veteran is expected to arrive in August.
“He’s an extraordinary and important player,” Allegri said on Monday. “It’s pointless to say more about him—his career speaks for itself.”
Modric, who will turn 40 in September, has been with Real Madrid since making the switch from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012. He has been widely linked with a move to Italy since June, after announcing his intention to leave the Spanish giants at the end of his contract.
Real Madrid face Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup semi-finals on Wednesday, with the final set for July 13.
Allegri returns to Milan after guiding the club to the Serie A title in 2011 during his previous stint between 2010 and 2014. The team begins the new season with a Coppa Italia fixture scheduled for August 17.
