Swiatek Cruises into Wimbledon Final After Crushing Win Over Bencic
Amanda Anisimova may need to replicate her finest form yet if she hopes to claim her maiden Grand Slam title, as Iga Swiatek delivered a statement performance to reach her first Wimbledon final with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 victory over Belinda Bencic.
The showdown will reignite a compelling rivalry—Swiatek and Anisimova last met at Wimbledon in 2022 in a memorable fourth-round battle, where the Polish star saved two match points before prevailing in three sets.
This time, however, there was no drama. Swiatek was in full control from the start, advancing to her sixth major final in commanding fashion. Notably, she boasts a perfect record in Grand Slam finals, having won all five she has contested so far.
“I’m just super excited and proud,” Swiatek said after the match. “Tennis continues to surprise me. I thought I’d seen everything, but I hadn’t experienced this level on grass before. My movement and serving have really come together.”
From the moment she stepped onto Centre Court—headphones on, locked in—Swiatek exuded focus. She later revealed that listening to AC/DC helps fire her up before matches, and the energy translated clearly to her performance on court. In just 74 minutes, she completed the demolition job, surrendering only two games.
Swiatek set the tone early by breaking Bencic in the opening game. A scare soon followed when the unseeded Swiss appeared to injure her knee while stretching for a return, though a brief stoppage due to a medical issue in the crowd gave her time to regroup.
Despite showing signs of discomfort at first, Bencic soon found her rhythm—but it made little difference against Swiatek’s precision and power. A delicate volley helped the top seed secure a second break and close out the first set in emphatic fashion.
Although Swiatek stumbled briefly with two consecutive double faults in the opening game of the second set, she recovered swiftly. She held serve, broke immediately, and never looked back—cruising through the rest of the match and sending a clear warning ahead of the final.
