Ayra Starr, NBA star Kawhi Leonard Join Giants of Africa Festival 2025 Line-Up in Kigali

Nigerian music star Ayra Starr and NBA champion Kawhi Leonard have been confirmed as part of the star-studded roster for the 2025 edition of the Giants of Africa Festival, scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from July 26 to August 2.

The week-long celebration is set to welcome 320 young athletes from 20 countries across the continent, along with more than 20,000 spectators, for a vibrant mix of basketball, music, fashion, education, and cultural exchange.

Ayra Starr will take the stage during the festival’s grand finale concert on August 2, joining fellow Afrobeats heavyweights Kizz Daniel and Timaya. Local talent will also be spotlighted, with Rwandan singer Alyn Sano billed to perform at the inaugural Threads of Africa Fashion Show on July 31.

Kicking off the festivities, South African DJ sensation Uncle Waffles and renowned choreographer Sherrie Silver will headline the opening night on July 27. Rwandan acts Kevin Kade, Ruti Joël, Boukuru, and Chriss Easy are also expected to light up the stage during the opening weekend.

Meanwhile, LA Clippers forward and two-time NBA champion Kawhi Leonard will contribute both on and off the court. He will engage with youth participants, inaugurate a newly built basketball court at St. Ignatius School, and lead a special clinic for 50 children at Club Rafiki, located in one of Kigali’s underserved neighborhoods.

Throughout the week, the festival will host several high-profile guests, including broadcast journalist Robin Roberts, WNBA star Chiney Ogwumike, football legend Didier Drogba, comedian Michael Blackson, and actor Boris Kodjoe.

Founded by former basketball player and executive Masai Ujiri, Giants of Africa is a non-profit organization that uses the power of sport to inspire and uplift African youth. Ujiri recently appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show and Good Morning America, where he spoke about the festival’s impact in building community, nurturing talent, and driving change across the continent.
