Arsenal Seal €73m Deal for Swedish Striker Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Swedish forward Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon in a deal worth €73 million (£63 million).
The 27-year-old has committed to a five-year contract at the Emirates after prolonged talks between both clubs, primarily over performance-related add-ons, delayed the final agreement. The total package includes a €63 million initial fee and an additional €10 million in potential bonuses.
Gyokeres becomes Arsenal’s latest major acquisition in a busy transfer window that has already seen the arrivals of Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, and Cristhian Mosquera, bringing the Gunners’ total summer spending to approximately £204 million.
The North London side turned to Gyokeres after their pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko reached a deadlock. Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta reportedly travelled to Portugal to finalise negotiations.
Gyokeres had been a target for several top European clubs, including Manchester United, but Arsenal eventually won the race for his signature. The forward’s exit from Sporting had been looming, especially after he failed to report for pre-season training earlier this month, prompting Sporting president Frederico Varandas to warn that disciplinary action would follow.
