Alexander Isak Training Separately at Real Sociedad Amid Uncertainty Over Newcastle Future
Alexander Isak is currently training alone at former club Real Sociedad as questions continue to surround his future at Newcastle United.
The 25-year-old striker was omitted from Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia, with the club citing a minor thigh injury. However, sources suggest Isak is keen to explore options away from St James’ Park, with Liverpool among the clubs reportedly monitoring his situation.
Isak, who signed for Newcastle from Sociedad in 2022 for £60 million, is using training facilities at the Spanish club, although he is not working with the first-team squad. It is understood he made a personal request to use the grounds, which Sociedad granted—allowing access outside the team’s regular training hours.
Newcastle have declined to make any public comment on the matter.
Speaking earlier this week, head coach Eddie Howe maintained that no formal bids had been received for the Swedish international.
“Alex is still very much our player and under contract here,” Howe said. “We have a level of control over what happens next. My hope is that he remains with us, but ultimately, not everything is in our hands.”
Isak was a standout performer last season, scoring 27 goals across 42 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies.
Meanwhile, Newcastle’s preparations for the new Premier League campaign continue to stutter. Howe’s side suffered their third pre-season defeat on Wednesday, falling 1-0 to a K-League XI. They face Tottenham Hotspur in Seoul on Sunday in their final tour fixture.
