Super Falcons Coach Madugu Receives N50m and House from Governor Fintiri

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has honoured Super Falcons coach, Justin Madugu, with a cash gift of N50 million and a three-bedroom bungalow in appreciation of his pivotal role in Nigeria’s victorious campaign at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Sport360NG reports.

The presentation took place at the Government House in Yola, the state capital, as announced by Governor Fintiri in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“Today, I was proud to receive Coach Justine Madugu, a true son of Adamawa and hero of Nigeria’s WAFCON 2025 victory. In recognition of his patriotism and brilliance, we have gifted him a 3-bedroom house and N50 million. His success inspires our sporting renaissance,” the governor wrote.

A native of Adamawa, Madugu was celebrated for masterminding the Falcons’ memorable comeback win against hosts Morocco in the final. The team overcame a two-goal deficit to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory, with second-half goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini.

The Falcons’ triumph marked their 10th WAFCON title, extending their record as the most successful team on the continent. They completed the tournament unbeaten, scoring 10 goals and conceding only three.

In addition to Fintiri’s recognition, Madugu was honoured with a traditional title by the Hama Bachama, who praised the coach for bringing pride not only to the kingdom but also to the entire nation. He encouraged Nigerian youth to take sports seriously, noting that modern-day athletics offers better prospects than many conventional careers.

Kwamoti Laori, the member representing Numan, Demsa, and Lamurde in the House of Representatives, also called for Madugu’s confirmation as the substantive head coach of the Super Falcons. He further appealed to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to upgrade sports infrastructure across the country to foster youth development.

The team had earlier been received by President Bola Tinubu at a special ceremony in Abuja, where players were awarded $100,000 each, while coaching staff, including Madugu, received $50,000, three-bedroom homes, and national honours as Officers of the Order of the Niger (OON).

Coach Madugu attended his homecoming event with his wife, rounding off a week of nationwide recognition for his role in Nigeria’s latest sporting success.
