Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has rewarded Super Falcons defender and Yakurr native, Miracle Usani, with ₦50 million, a plot of land in Calabar, and an appointment as the state’s Sports Ambassador in recognition of her achievements with Nigeria’s victorious 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) team, Sport360NG reports.

Governor Otu announced the reward on Wednesday during a reception held at Government House, Calabar, where he praised the 21-year-old’s commitment, discipline, and contribution to Nigeria’s continental triumph.

“We are delighted to celebrate you today,” Otu said. “Your passion and perseverance have inspired us all. You have shown that what a man can do, a woman can do even better. You’re now a symbol of pride for Cross River, for Nigeria, and for Africa.”

The governor reflected on his youthful days as an athlete, noting that sports instil resilience and character. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reviving the state’s sports sector to discover and groom new talents.

“Our Commissioner for Sports is already doing commendable work,” he said. “We’re addressing structural challenges in the system, and with success stories like yours, we’re confident of a brighter future.”

Otu described sports as “no longer just recreation but a serious business venture,” urging young people to see opportunities within it. “We’re honouring you today so that other children can see what is possible. You’ve brought honour to Cross River State, and we’ll continue to support your journey,” he added.

Presenting the rewards, the governor announced: “We’ve approved ₦50 million and a plot of land for you in Calabar. You’ll also join our VVIP protocol list and serve as Sports Ambassador for the state. You’re now part of our official delegation at major events.”

He called on the state’s sports community to nurture young athletes, assuring that his government would continue to invest in talent development so that “many more Miracles” can emerge from Cross River.

In her remarks, Usani, who plays for Edo Queens FC, expressed gratitude for the honour and recalled her challenging path to success.

“My journey was never easy,” she said. “Growing up, people said girls who played football would become masculine or never get married. There was no female team in Ugep, so I played with boys. But I stayed determined. Today, I’m proud to represent Nigeria and Cross River on the global stage.”

Usani, who also featured for the Super Falcons at the 2022 FIFA Women’s World Cup, dedicated her success to God, her parents, and the people of Cross River State.
