World No. 1 Jannik Sinner made a commanding return to action at the Cincinnati Masters, sweeping aside Colombia’s Daniel Elahi Galan 6-1, 6-1 in his first match since lifting his maiden Wimbledon crown, Sport360NG reports.

Fourth-ranked Taylor Fritz fired 12 aces to overpower fellow American and qualifier Emilio Nava 6-4, 6-4, booking his spot in the next round.

But there were early exits for other seeds. Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, seeded eighth, fell to world No. 63 Benjamin Bonzi, who battled back for a 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory. Casper Ruud also suffered an upset, with French world No. 70 Arthur Rinderknech rallying from a set down to eliminate the 11th seed 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-2.

Attention now shifts towards the US Open, the season’s final Grand Slam, which begins at Flushing Meadows, New York, on 24 August.
