Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare opened his goal tally for the 2025/26 Belgian Jupiler Pro League on Sunday, but his strike could not prevent Genk from slipping to a 2-1 defeat away to Standard Liege, Sport360NG reports.

The 24-year-old, who has been the subject of summer transfer speculation with AC Milan, Atalanta and Fulham all reportedly interested, started on the bench for Thorsten Fink’s men. He replaced Jarne Steuckers in the 67th minute and needed just three minutes to make an impact, slotting home in the 70th minute to halve the deficit.

Despite his effort, Genk were unable to avoid their second loss in three league games this season. The club have collected only one point so far and sit 14th in the standings, with three goals scored and five conceded, leaving them with a -2 goal difference.

Arokodare was prolific last term, finishing as Genk’s top scorer with 21 goals across the league’s regular season and play-offs, a contribution that helped secure Europa League qualification. The Nigerian will aim to add to his tally when Genk visit Oud-Heverlee Leuven for their matchday four clash on Friday, August 15.
