Tensions Rise: Wissa Removes Brentford Photos During Transfer Stand-Off
Yoane Wissa has sparked fresh speculation over his future after removing all Brentford-related content from his Instagram profile, Sport360NG reports.
The DR Congo international was absent from the squad during the Bees’ 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, with Newcastle United keen to bring him to St James’ Park. At least one bid has already been turned down by Brentford this summer.
Wissa’s standoff with the club began last month when he cut short their pre-season tour in Portugal and threatened to refuse training or playing unless allowed to move to Tyneside. Although tensions cooled briefly when the 28-year-old returned to first-team training, he remained clear about his desire to join Newcastle.
The forward believed Brentford would green-light his departure once they secured a replacement. Following the arrival of Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth, Wissa expected his move to be finalised this week. However, sources indicate Brentford have yet to sanction the deal, with the club now thought to be holding out for as much as £60m, significantly higher than their earlier £40m valuation.
The deadlock has escalated in recent days, with Wissa erasing all photos of himself playing or training for Brentford on social media. Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring the situation, but Newcastle’s pursuit is currently at a more advanced stage.
Wissa has registered 49 goals in 149 appearances since joining Brentford, but his future at the club remains uncertain with the transfer deadline fast approaching.
