Arsenal Hijack Spurs’ Eze Move in £60m Power Play

Arsenal have delivered a seismic blow to Tottenham Hotspur by swooping in to hijack Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze’s transfer, a move that underlines the Gunners’ determination to end their wait for major silverware, Sport360NG reports.

Spurs had been on the brink of sealing a deal for the England international, with negotiations advanced and confidence high that the 27-year-old would make the switch to north London. But Arsenal’s intervention has turned the saga on its head, with the club now expected to finalise a £60m deal that will take Eze to the Emirates.

The late push was sparked by fears over Kai Havertz’s knee injury, which could leave Mikel Arteta short of attacking options. Rather than settle for a temporary loan solution, Arsenal acted decisively, moving to secure a player long admired within the club.

Eze’s imminent arrival represents more than just a transfer coup over their fiercest rivals. It is a statement of ambition from Arsenal, who are intent on challenging for the Premier League title and making another deep run in the Champions League after last season’s semi-final exit.

Spurs had explored various packages for Eze, including a cash-plus-Richarlison arrangement, but Arsenal’s swift action left them stunned. Eze now looks set to become the latest addition to a reinforced squad built to finally deliver trophies.

The Palace forward, who still had two years remaining on his contract, has built a reputation as a big-game player. He scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City and also netted in both the quarter-final and semi-final of the competition as Palace lifted their first major trophy last season.

Eze, who hit 14 goals in all competitions in 2024/25, adds creativity and scoring threat across the front line. A boyhood Arsenal supporter, he spent time in the club’s academy before being released at 13. He later rose through the ranks at QPR before joining Palace in 2020 for £19.5m, where he has since flourished into one of the Premier League’s most exciting talents.

For Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and manager Thomas Frank, the collapse of the deal is another frustration, particularly after losing out on Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White earlier this summer.

For Arsenal, however, snatching Eze from their neighbours is both a symbolic and strategic victory, one they hope will mark the beginning of a season of long-awaited triumphs.
