Angola reclaimed their place at the summit of African basketball on Sunday, storming past Mali 70–43 to lift the AfroBasket crown in front of a packed Kilamba Arena in Luanda, Sport360NG reports.

The 12,700-capacity venue was filled to the brim as the home fans witnessed their team secure the continental title for the first time since 2013. Angola seized control early and never looked back, opening up a 20-point cushion in the third quarter that allowed supporters to celebrate with a synchronized Mexican wave.

Childe Dundão led the way for the champions, posting 16 points and drawing MVP chants from the crowd in the final quarter. Selton Miguel also hit double figures, adding 12 points to Angola’s tally.

For Mali, Siriman Kanoute and Aliou Diarra were the top performers with 14 and 11 points respectively, but their efforts could not prevent the West Africans from setting an unwanted record, their 43-point total was the lowest scored by any team in an AfroBasket game over the past 30 years.

Angola’s flawless 6-0 run through the tournament underlined their dominance, while Mali, competing in their first-ever AfroBasket final, concluded their campaign with a 4-3 record.
