India Independence Day Golf Tournament: Ojo, Obieze Crowned Winners
The second edition of the India Independence Day Golf Tournament ended in grand style at the Ikeja Golf Club, with Babatunde Ojo and Lynda Obieze emerging as overall winners in the men’s and ladies’ categories, Sport360NG reports.
Introduced last year, the competition has quickly grown into a prominent fixture, bringing together the Indian community in Nigeria and top local golfers to celebrate the anniversary of India’s independence.
In the men’s event, Ojo edged out Goke Akinboro after both players finished on 33 points, with the countback rule handing Ojo the victory. Mojeed Aberuaga secured third place with 31 points.
Obieze dominated the ladies’ category with 34 points, finishing ahead of Queen Ebosetale Okhuleigbe, who carded 32 points, while Afolashade Opuwunmi placed third on 30 points.
Special prizes also added colour to the tournament. Arun Sharma claimed the men’s longest drive award, while Okhuleigbe took the women’s version. Mike Laleye picked up the men’s nearest-to-the-pin honour, with Chichi Alamu winning the women’s equivalent.
Speaking at the closing dinner, Ikeja Golf Club Captain, Rasheed Adebisi, commended the Indian community for choosing the club as host venue and highlighted the enduring friendship between Nigeria and India.
“India is 79 years old. We will continue to support their community because the relationship between India and Nigeria has come a long way,” Adebisi noted.
