Rangers Forward Cyriel Dessers on Verona’s Radar Ahead of Transfer Deadline

As the 2025 summer transfer window nears its deadline, Hellas Verona are once again weighing up a move for Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers, Sport360NG reports.

The Nigerian international, who turns 31 later this year, has been repeatedly mentioned in transfer rumours during the off-season, with reports suggesting he could leave Ibrox for a second spell in Italy. Verona coach Paolo Zanetti is believed to be pushing for an extra forward option, with Dessers’ experience seen as valuable for their Serie A campaign.

According to The Scottish Sun, Verona previously explored a deal for the forward 18 months ago but talks broke down. Rangers manager Russell Martin has admitted the player’s future remains unresolved and a late switch could still happen before Monday’s closure of the window.

Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has also indicated that Verona are back in the race, while Dessers has attracted interest from AEK Athens in Greece. Local outlet L’Arena claims discussions are taking place with Verona sporting director Sean Sogliano. Rangers, however, are understood to favour a permanent sale, whereas the Italians are leaning toward a loan move.

Since signing from Cremonese in 2023, Dessers has produced 52 goals in 115 matches for the Scottish club, making him a central figure in their attack. He missed last week’s 3-1 Champions League play-off defeat to Club Brugge and the 1-1 domestic draw with St Mirren because of injury.

Still, Martin is optimistic about his recovery. “Cyriel has put in a huge effort to get back. He wasn’t ready for the weekend, but there’s a strong chance he’ll feature on Wednesday,” the Rangers boss said ahead of the decisive second leg against Brugge.
