Aston Villa on verge of securing Sancho loan from Manchester United
Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho on loan, with the England international once again set for a temporary move away from Old Trafford, Sport360NG reports.
Sancho, 25, previously rejected a switch to Roma earlier in the transfer window, while Juventus were also monitoring his situation. Instead, Villa now look poised to offer him a Premier League lifeline.
The former Borussia Dortmund star has spent the past year and a half away from United, taking in loan spells at Dortmund and Chelsea. Neither club opted to trigger a permanent deal, with Chelsea even paying United a £5m penalty for failing to follow through on an obligation to buy.
Sancho arrived at United for £73m in 2021 but has barely featured in recent seasons. His last competitive appearance for the club came in the Community Shield in August 2024. With his contract set to expire next summer, United still hold an option to extend until 2027, though his long-term future remains uncertain.
What once promised to be a marquee signing after his standout performances at Euro 2020 has unraveled into a tale of frustration. Sancho has made 83 appearances for United but just one since August 2023. His time under Erik ten Hag was marred by a highly publicised fallout, including being exiled to train alone for four months after the manager questioned his application in training.
Sancho was briefly reintegrated following intervention from then-sporting director Dan Ashworth, featuring on United’s pre-season tour and making a cameo in the Community Shield. But the relationship never fully recovered.
His loan return to Dortmund proved more successful, helping the German club reach the Champions League final last season, but another attempt at revival with Chelsea quickly faltered.
Now Villa are preparing to become his third loan destination in under two years, with the winger seeking yet another fresh start as he looks to revive a career that once carried so much promise.
