Liverpool Agree £125m Deal to Sign Isak from Newcastle
Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Alexander Isak after agreeing a £125m fee with Newcastle United, The striker will undergo a medical on Monday before putting pen to a six-year contract at Anfield, with the move expected to be finalised on Deadline Day, Sport360NG reports.
The deal surpasses the £115m Chelsea spent to land Moises Caicedo from Brighton in 2023, making Isak one of the most expensive transfers in Premier League history.
Liverpool had previously seen a £110m bid, plus add-ons, rejected earlier this summer, with Newcastle initially holding out for £150m. But the situation changed after Isak refused to train or feature for Eddie Howe’s side in recent weeks, forcing the club to reconsider.
Newcastle’s decision was also influenced by their ability to bring in a replacement. The £69m arrival of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart, a club-record signing, gave them the green light to sanction Isak’s departure.
The Magpies are still in the market for another forward, with Callum Wilson having departed on a free transfer at the end of last season. Attempts to sign Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and Wolves’ Jorgen Strand-Larsen have so far been unsuccessful.
