US Open 2025: Sinner sets up blockbuster final with Alcaraz after overcoming Auger-Aliassime

Jannik Sinner battled through an injury scare to defeat Felix Auger-Aliassime and book his place in another Grand Slam final against Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open, Sport360NG reports.

The 24-year-old world No.1 came through 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Arthur Ashe Stadium, ensuring a third straight major final showdown with Alcaraz. The Spaniard earlier dismissed Novak Djokovic in straight sets to secure his spot in Sunday’s title match.

Their meeting will be historic, marking the first time in the Open era that two players contest three Grand Slam finals in a single season. It will also decide the No.1 ranking, which Sinner has held for over a year.

Despite a blistering start, the Italian looked unsettled in the second set, calling a medical timeout before rediscovering enough rhythm to close out victory. He has now reached all four Slam finals this year, winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon and finishing runner-up at Roland Garros.

“Sunday will be special. We’ve built a rivalry that started here in 2022, and now we’re at a very different level,” Sinner said, downplaying concerns over his physical condition.

Auger-Aliassime, appearing in his first major semi-final since 2021, seized his chance to level the contest in the second set but was unable to maintain momentum against the more seasoned Sinner.

Victory places Sinner in elite company alongside Rod Laver, Roger Federer and Djokovic as the only men to reach all four major finals in a single season.

Alcaraz, meanwhile, underlined his maturity with a commanding 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 triumph over Djokovic. The 22-year-old struck early, breaking in the opening game and staying composed through a tense second-set tie-break before running away with the match.

Djokovic, a three-time US Open champion, showed glimpses of resilience but could not keep pace, hampered by 30 unforced errors and a physical dip in the third set.

“They’re playing incredible tennis,” admitted the 38-year-old Serb. “I gave everything but just didn’t have enough left.”

Sunday’s final promises to be another chapter in a fast-growing rivalry: Alcaraz leads their head-to-head 9-5 and has won three of four encounters in 2025, while Sinner is chasing a third Slam of the year and the chance to extend his dominance at the top of the game.
