Alcaraz Reclaims US Open Crown with Victory Over Rival Sinner

Carlos Alcaraz once again came out on top in his enthralling rivalry with Jannik Sinner, defeating the Italian in four sets to capture a second US Open title, Sport360NG reports.

The Spaniard struck early, absorbed a spirited comeback from Sinner, and then reasserted control to seal a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win under the lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The final, already billed as another chapter in the sport’s fastest-growing rivalry, was pushed back by 30 minutes after heightened security protocols were introduced for the arrival of former US president Donald Trump.

When play eventually began, Alcaraz’s sharp serving set the tone. The 22-year-old, who had been undone in that area against Sinner at Wimbledon, dropped serve only twice all tournament, and his dominance behind the baseline helped him secure a sixth Grand Slam crown. He now sits behind only Bjorn Borg as the youngest man to reach that tally.

This year’s majors have been evenly split between the pair, with Alcaraz triumphing in Paris and New York, while Sinner lifted the trophies in Melbourne and at Wimbledon. The New Yorker’s triumph also restored him to world number one, ending Sinner’s 65-week stay at the summit.

“I see you more than my family,” Alcaraz joked afterwards, acknowledging his fifth meeting with Sinner in a final this season.

The Italian, below his best for much of the contest, still produced flashes of his trademark power. He forced Alcaraz to regroup after saving two championship points, but a blistering 131mph ace sealed the win for the Spaniard, who celebrated with his now-familiar golf swing gesture.

A Final Overshadowed by Delay

The build-up was dominated by Trump’s return to Flushing Meadows for the first time since 2015. Fans queued through airport-style scanners outside Ashe, while the players killed time inside, Alcaraz stretching on a mat, Sinner kicking a mini-football around.

Once underway, the world’s top two quickly picked up where they left off in previous meetings. Alcaraz’s early break and relentless variety earned him the first set, but Sinner responded with blistering groundstrokes to level the match.

Unlike their five-set thrillers in Paris and London earlier this year, the momentum swing didn’t last. Alcaraz rediscovered his rhythm in the third, mixing deft touches at the net with relentless baseline aggression, and pulled away as Sinner’s error count mounted, possibly a legacy of the abdominal issue that troubled him in his semi-final.

After surrendering serve five times, the Wimbledon champion offered little resistance in the closing stages, and Alcaraz calmly served out the title.

“I gave everything I had today. It just wasn’t enough,” admitted Sinner afterwards.
