NOGIG 2026 football preliminaries set for port harcourt in january
The preliminary round of the football event at the 2026 Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games (NOGIG) will take place in Port Harcourt from January 12 to 17, the chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Dr Sulaiman Sulaiman, has confirmed, Sport360NG reports.
Speaking to journalists on Friday, Sulaiman outlined his vision for the Games, stressing a commitment to excellence, innovation, visibility and long-term sustainability.
He said the biennial sporting festival continues to serve as a key platform for strengthening inter-corporate relations within the oil and gas sector, while also promoting unity, wellness and professional networking among industry employees.
The 2026 edition, which will be the 20th since the Games were introduced in 1986, will feature participation from 15 companies. According to the chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee, Simon Nweke, the confirmed participants are the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, Oando, TotalEnergies, ND Western, Aradel Holdings, ExxonMobil, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO), Seplat Energy, Chevron and Nigeria LNG (NLNG).
The main Games are scheduled to hold from February 8 to 12, 2026, at Package B of the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
NOGIG 2026 will feature a wide range of sports, including tennis, golf, table tennis, swimming, scrabble, chess, snooker, volleyball and athletics. Track events will include men’s and women’s 100 metres, 200 metres and 4×100 metres relays.
Sulaiman expressed confidence that the upcoming edition would surpass previous tournaments, urging Nigerians to look forward to what he described as a significantly improved and memorable Games.
