UCL: Spurs ease pressure on Frank with commanding champions league win over Dortmund
Tottenham Hotspur delivered a timely response to mounting pressure on head coach Thomas Frank with a composed 2-0 victory over 10-man Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday night, Sport360NG reports.
Frank had entered the contest under scrutiny following Saturday’s damaging 2-1 home defeat to West Ham, a result that sparked visible frustration among sections of the Spurs support. But there was a marked shift in mood at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the hosts produced one of their most energetic and purposeful displays of the season.
First-half goals from Cristian Romero and Dominic Solanke proved decisive, lifting Spurs into fourth place in the league phase and leaving them well positioned to secure automatic qualification for the knockout rounds with one game remaining.

Despite some empty seats in the upper tiers at kick-off, Tottenham quickly settled nerves with a fast start. Their aggressive pressing unsettled Dortmund, and the breakthrough arrived when Romero converted Wilson Odobert’s delivery from the right.
Spurs continued to play on the front foot and were handed a further advantage when Dortmund were reduced to 10 men. Daniel Svensson was sent off following a VAR review for a high boot on Odobert, who remained influential moments later by supplying the assist for Tottenham’s second goal.
After combining smartly with Pedro Porro, Odobert drove a low cross into the box that deflected off Solanke’s heel and into the net, giving the hosts a deserved cushion before the interval.
Tottenham were unable to maintain the same intensity after the break but still had opportunities to extend their lead. Randal Kolo Muani broke clear but fired straight at goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, while Guglielmo Vicario preserved the clean sheet late on by tipping Nico Schlotterbeck’s header over the bar in stoppage time.
While the second half lacked the sharpness of the opening 45 minutes, the overall performance represented a significant step forward for Frank’s side. Work rate, attacking intent and cohesion, qualities often questioned during his tenure, were all evident, particularly before the interval.
Although Dortmund’s dismissal tilted the balance further in Tottenham’s favour, the hosts were firmly in control long before the red card and fully merited the result.
The victory offers Frank much-needed breathing space, though some supporters will remain cautious. Consistency, and a greater ability to sustain performances across 90 minutes, will be key if Tottenham are to convince doubters that the Dane is the right man to lead the club forward.
