NPFL fines Remo Stars ₦6m, orders remaining home games away from Ikenne
Remo Stars have been charged by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for multiple violations of the league’s Framework and Rules following crowd disturbances during their Matchday 20 clash with Ikorodu City on January 14, 2026, Sport360NG reports.
In a statement, the NPFL said the reigning champions failed to provide sufficient and effective security for the fixture, a lapse that contributed to violent confrontations between supporters of both teams. The disorder reportedly led to injuries among visiting fans and damage to vehicles linked to Ikorodu City.
The league also accused Remo Stars of failing to control their supporters, with match officials subjected to harassment and intimidation. Home fans were further cited for throwing objects onto the pitch, causing several interruptions to the game.
Condemning what it described as “barbaric behaviour,” the NPFL said some supporters brought dangerous objects and weapons into the stadium, conduct it ruled capable of bringing the league into disrepute.
As punishment, Remo Stars have been fined a total of ₦6 million. This includes ₦2 million for inadequate security, ₦1 million for objects thrown onto the pitch, ₦1 million for improper conduct of supporters, and another ₦1 million for behaviour deemed damaging to the league’s image. An additional ₦2 million has been imposed as compensation for damage to the Ikorodu City team bus and injuries sustained by their supporters.
Beyond the financial penalties, the NPFL has directed that Remo Stars play the remainder of their 2025/26 home matches at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, following the incident at their Ikenne home ground.
The club has been granted 48 hours from the date of notification to submit an appeal against the sanctions.
