AFCON experience to drive my impact at Viktoria Plzeň — Fago Lawal
Super Eagles forward Fago Lawal has expressed confidence that his experience with Nigeria national football team at the Africa Cup of Nations will be pivotal to his success at his new club, Viktoria Plzeň, Sport360NG reports.
Lawal completed a move to the Czech champions from Croatian side NK Istra on Tuesday, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract that marks the next step in his European career.
The Nigerian international believes the intensity and exposure of top-level international football have prepared him well for the demands of club competition on the continent.
“I know Viktoria mainly from their performances in European competitions, where they have achieved great results over a long period,” Lawal said after sealing the transfer. “The offer really interested me, and I see it as a step forward in my career. I want to help the club as much as possible.”
Lawal added that his recent involvement with the national team has ensured he arrives in the Czech Republic match-fit and ready to contribute immediately.
“Given that I was with the national team at the African Championship, I feel well prepared and ready to be fully available to the coaches straight away,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to my first training session and getting to know my new teammates.”
The forward, who will wear the number 70 shirt, is expected to strengthen Viktoria Plzeň’s attacking options as the club continues its domestic and European campaigns.
