Crystal Palace break transfer record to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves

Crystal Palace have completed a club-record deal to sign striker Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the transfer reported to be worth up to £48 million, Sport360NG reports.

The 25-year-old Norway international has agreed a four-and-a-half-year contract at Selhurst Park and will wear the number 22 shirt. Palace moved quickly for Strand Larsen amid strong interest in forward Jean-Philippe Mateta from AC Milan.

Mateta, who has been managing a knee problem, underwent an initial medical on Sunday followed by further tests on Monday. However, the Italian club have since withdrawn from the proposed £30m deal, ensuring the France international remains at Palace alongside the club’s new signing.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish welcomed the arrival of Strand Larsen, describing him as a long-term addition to the squad.

“We’re delighted that Jorgen has chosen to continue his impressive journey with us and we look forward to seeing him in action at Selhurst Park,” Parish said. “I’m sure he will prove himself a valuable asset for years to come.”

Palace were also pursuing a loan-to-buy move for Everton winger Dwight McNeil, but that deal collapsed after the necessary paperwork was not completed before the deadline.

Strand Larsen arrives in south London following a difficult campaign at Wolves, where he has scored once in 22 Premier League appearances as the club sit bottom of the table. Palace will hope the striker can rediscover the form that brought him 14 goals in 35 matches last season, prompting Wolves to make his move from Celta Vigo permanent.

“I’m really excited to come to Crystal Palace,” Strand Larsen said. “It’s something I’ve wanted for a long time. I’m here to bring energy and goals and to do my best for the club.”

The forward could make his debut on Sunday when Palace travel to face Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.
