Falconets beat Senegal 1–0 in U20 world cup qualifier first leg
Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, claimed a hard-earned 1–0 win over Senegal U20 women in the first leg of their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying encounter at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Sport360NG reports.
The opening half ended without goals as Senegal adopted a compact, disciplined approach that limited clear-cut opportunities, despite Nigeria enjoying the bulk of possession and territorial advantage.
The breakthrough arrived five minutes after the restart when Kindness Ifeanyi found the net in the 50th minute, capitalising on the Falconets’ increased tempo and attacking intent in the second period.
The narrow victory gives Nigeria a slender edge ahead of the return leg scheduled for February 14, 2026, in Senegal.
The winner over the two legs will progress to the final round of African qualification, where either Guinea-Bissau or Malawi awaits, with four continental tickets available for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
The 12th edition of the tournament will be hosted in Poland from September 5 to 27.
