Rampant Arsenal cruise past Fulham to extend title lead and strengthen goal difference

Arsenal tightened their grip at the top of the table with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Fulham, opening up a six-point cushion over Manchester City while significantly improving their goal difference, Sport360NG reports. 

Mikel Arteta’s side delivered a devastating first-half performance, scoring all three goals before the break. Viktor Gyokeres was the standout performer with a brace, while Bukayo Saka marked his return to the starting XI with a goal in his first appearance since the Carabao Cup final.

Fresh from a physically demanding 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final, Arsenal showed no signs of fatigue. Instead, Saka’s return injected sharpness and fluidity into their attack.

The England winger played a key role in the opener, driving past Raul Jimenez before delivering a precise low cross for Gyokeres to finish from close range. Saka then doubled the lead himself, combining neatly with the striker before firing past Bernd Leno at the near post.

Gyokeres added his second of the afternoon, and his 21st goal of the season, by heading home a well-delivered cross from Leandro Trossard, capping a dominant opening 45 minutes.

With one eye on the upcoming second leg against Atletico Madrid, Arteta made early changes, withdrawing Saka at half-time. Gyokeres was also later rested after being denied a hat-trick when Leno produced a fine save in a one-on-one situation.

Arsenal continued to create chances in the second half against a Fulham side hampered by illness in their camp. Gabriel saw a close-range effort cleared off the line, Riccardo Calafiori struck the crossbar, and substitute Max Dowman fired wide.

Despite failing to add to their tally, the comprehensive victory could prove pivotal in the title race. Arsenal now hold a four-goal advantage in goal difference over second-placed Manchester City, who trail by six points but have two games in hand.

There was further encouragement for the Gunners as academy prospect Myles Lewis-Skelly impressed on his first senior start in midfield, delivering a composed and assured display to round off a near-perfect afternoon for the league leaders.
