Gondomar SC unveil tribute kits in honour of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva
Gondomar SC have dedicated their 2025–26 season kits to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, following the tragic deaths of the two footballers in a car accident in Spain last month, Sport360NG reports.
Jota, a Portugal and Liverpool forward, and Silva, who played for Portuguese second-tier side Penafiel, died in a crash on 3 July in the Spanish province of Zamora. The pair, aged 28 and 25 respectively, both grew up in Gondomar, a municipality near Porto.
In their honour, Gondomar SC have unveiled home, away and third kits featuring portraits of the brothers on the front of each shirt. Their names also appear on the back, positioned beneath an infinity symbol to represent their lasting legacy.
“Our new jersey brings in the great image of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva,

two sons of Gondomar who left us too soon, but who will live forever in the history of our club and our football,” the club wrote on social media. “Every time our athletes put on this jersey, it’s like stepping on the field with them.”
The Portuguese fourth-tier side had previously named their academy after Jota in 2022, recognising his rise through their youth ranks before going on to represent clubs including Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool.
“More than a jersey, a tribute eternal,” the club added. “Because football is more than victories and goals, it’s legacy, it’s family, it’s love for our land.”
Liverpool have also paid tribute to Jota by retiring his number 20 shirt and confirming plans for a memorial sculpture honouring both brothers. A “Forever 20” emblem will be featured on Liverpool’s shirts throughout the upcoming season.
