HFN Certifies 14 Coaches After Completion of IHF License D Course

The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) has officially certified 14 local coaches following their successful completion of the International Handball Federation (IHF) License D Coaching Course held in Abuja, Sport360NG reports.

Organised in collaboration with the IHF and the Confederation of African Handball, the week-long programme featured both theoretical and practical sessions aimed at equipping grassroots coaches with modern coaching methodologies. Notably, six of the participants were women, reflecting a growing emphasis on gender inclusion within the sport.

Led by IHF instructor William De Almeida from Angola, the course covered various aspects of coaching, including advanced training techniques, team management, and player development strategies. All participants fulfilled the necessary requirements and were awarded IHF certification upon completion.

HFN President, Samuel Ocheho, praised the coaches for their dedication and highlighted the significance of the initiative in raising coaching standards nationwide.

“This course marks a critical milestone in our mission to improve the technical expertise of coaches across the country,” Ocheho said. “We are especially encouraged by the participation of six female coaches, which aligns with our commitment to inclusivity and grassroots development.”

Husseini Mohammed, HFN board member representing the North-East Zone and chairman of the Course Organising Committee, also commended the federation’s leadership for facilitating the programme.

“I want to acknowledge the efforts of the HFN board and President for making this course possible. It represents a crucial investment in the future of our coaches,” Mohammed said.

He also extended appreciation to the National Sports Commission for its support, noting that Alhaji Haruna Maigidansanma, representing the commission’s Director General, was present at the course’s closing ceremony.

Ocheho concluded by expressing confidence that the training will have a lasting impact on handball’s growth in Nigeria, helping to build a stronger foundation for the sport at all levels.
